Covington County Emergency Management Agency Director Susan Harris had an once-in-a-lifetime moment over the weekend.

Harris was in the nation’s capital with a group representing the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers.

While the group was there, they met with senators and representatives about emergency management and how much they appreciated their support, she said.

But the best part of the trip for her was the opportunity to place a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Solider at Arlington National Cemetery.

“Placing the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider was an incredible experience,” she said. “It stands atop a hill in the Arlington Cemetery and overlooking Washington, D.C. It is such a beautiful display of love for our military and their sacrifice for all of us. When you get close to the site, the guards demand silence and respect, but if you have any understanding of our wonderful military that is not hard to do. It was truly and honor to pay respects to our military and to place the wreath on the tomb.”
