Near-freezing or at-freezing temperatures are expected in Covington County over the next few days.

The National Weather Service forecasters issued a special weather statement Tuesday calling for near freezing temperatures through early this morning.

They also forecast patchy fog.

Additionally, a more widespread freeze is expected to impact late tonight through early Thursday.

A freeze watch has been issued locally.

Forecasters say a cold airmass has settled over the area.

Areas north of Highway 84 will see temperatures falling to below freezing tonight with most of the area seeing below freezing temperatures Wednesday night.

NWS’s freeze watch is in effect from late Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

A freeze watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Today, patchy frost is expected before 9 a.m., and areas of frost after 1 a.m. through 9 a.m.

Tonight’s low is expected to be around 31.
