The Covington County Commission on Tuesday made two appointments to the South Central Alabama Mental Health board.

Commissioners reappointed Amy Jones to the board, but did not return long-serving member Brenda Petty to the board.

Instead, they appointed Alan Syler to her seat, which expires in April.

In other business, they:

• renewed the contract of Republic Services for three years.

Chairman Greg White said there have been some problems in the recent past, but that local employees have worked with the county to address the problems.
