Jesse Guy Mason

Mr. Jesse Guy Mason, 93, of Red Level, passed away Tues., March 14, 2017, in the hospital in Georgiana.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Fri., March 17, at Fairmount Baptist Church with Brother John Bell officiating. Interment will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church at 10 a.m. on Friday.

He is survived by his son, Ben Mason of Andalusia; his grandchildren, Jessica (Dustin) Edgar and Allen (Sabrina) Catrett; four great grandchildren, Jacob Catrett, M. J. Catrett, Xander Hare, Lyra Edgar.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sayde DeMent Mason.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Catrett, Dustin Edgar, Larry Sims, Tony Holley, Steve Bailey, and Jimmy Rodgers.

Lamar Wilton Curry

Msgt. Lamar Wilton Curry, age 83, of Andalusia passed away on March 13, 2017, at his residence.

He was born on Jan. 22, 1934, in Red Level, to Beaury and Gurtis Curry. He attended Red Level High School. His family moved to Loraine, Ohio, and his education was not completed until May of 1956. He worked as a merchant Marine Seaman until going into the United States Air Force on July 29, 1954. He served in the 6046th Crash Rescue Boat Squadron, 3208th Test Group. He attended the NCO-AF Academy in Virginia and graduated on Sept. 23, 1970. He was honorably discharged on September 28, 1980, after serving in both the Korea and the Vietnam Conflict and faithfully serving his country for 26 years. Some of the medals he earned during his service to our country are: Small Arms Marksman Expert, NCO Academy Graduate, Army Good Conduct Medal (working under Army in Vietnam War), Air Force Good Conduct Medal (twice), National Defense Service Medal (twice), Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal, USAF Longevity Award, and Special Medal of Commendation. After retirement from the Air Force, he attended MacArthur Tech for two years. He worked for the U. S. Post Office in Opp and retired in 2004. While serving at the Post Office he was named Outstanding Person of the Year.

Mr. Curry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jewel Curry of Andalusia; children, Lamar “Marty” Wilton Curry, Jr. of Andalusia, Jerrilynn Lemley of Dauphin Island, and special niece who was like a daughter, Gwen House Robbins of Warner Robbins, Ga; grandchildren, Brandon Curry of Andalusia, Lamar “Tra” Wilton Curry III of Andalusia, Mackenzie Curry of Andalusia, Joshua Lemley of Widbey Island, Wash., special nephew that was like a grandson, Taylor Robbins of Warner Robbins, Ga., Susan Jewel Powell of Glenwood, Katie Lemley of Dauphin Island, and Sarah Perkins of Warner Robbins, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Shay Curry, Emma Curry, Noah Curry, Grant Coleman Powell, Delilah Jayne Robbins, and Jamie Geohagan; sister, Mildred Curry Josey of Andalusia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services will be held on Wed., March 15, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
