Relay for Life is a little more than a month away, but organizers say they have 20 teams signed up and a $90,000 fundraising goal.
Team Ambassador Randi Bozeman said the organization recently had the largest pageant in its history with 92 contestants over the weekend.
“In all, the Covington County Relay for Life raised over $5,500 for the American Cancer Society,” she said. “We are still waiting on some last-minute sponsorship money, as well. We would like to thank the community for their participation and continued support in this annual fundraiser.”
The Relay for Life event is slated for April 21, at 6 p.m., at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds.
“We will begin with our survivor and caregiver laps and will provide a dinner and bingo for survivors and caregivers,” she said. “We will have music, food and fellowship and hope that many in the community will come out and support a great cause.”
Bozeman said funds raised by Relay for Life each year go back to the community to help those in our area who are suffering with cancer.
“It may help with travel, housing while having to be away from home, bills, etc.,” she said. “We all know someone suffering from this awful thing called cancer, and we hope that one day the funds we are able to raise will help to provide a cure.”
