Ford issues massive recall

Ford this week recalled more than a half million vehicles in Europe and North America to fix issues that can cause engines to catch fire, and the doors to open suddenly.

The engine recall will affect more than 360,000 vehicles.

It includes the 2014 Ford Escape, 2014 and 2015 Ford Fiesta ST, 2013 and 2014 Ford Fusion and the 2013 through 2015 Transit Connect.

All the vehicles have the 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engines.

The Associated Press reported that a lack of coolant circulation could cause the engine to overheat, causing a crack in the cylinder head.

Ford has reported that they have had 29 reports of fires in the U.S. and Canada, but so far no one has been injured.

Company spokesperson Elizabeth Weigandt said that owners can continue to drive the vehicles safely.

The company will send affected car owners literature on what to do to check and refill coolant.

It is possible that the company will install coolant level sensors and warning lights in the vehicles.

The company also added 211,000 vehicles to its 2015 recall on faulty door latches.

This recall covers the 2014 Ford Fiesta, 2013-2014 Ford Fusions and Lincoln MKZ.
