Master Potter Regan Baker’s pottery will be on display at the Opp Cultural Arts Center April 6, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
“As an artist utilizing the media of clay, I find myself connected to Mother Nature herself,” Baker said. “There is something about the clay that speaks to me and tells me what it wants to become. The majority of my art work is made out of inspiration utilizing this bond between my hands and the clay.”
Baker said he has found that attempting to impose a shape and forcing the clay rarely yields the results worthy of art.
“On the other hand, by allowing the clay to release the shape within, the results are truly amazing,” he said.
Baker said there are two main reasons that drive his passion to make this type of unique art.
The first is being part of the transformation of shapes that lie within the clay and then the excitement and feedback he receives when people view his work.
Baker works at Fort Rucker.
He was awarded the State of Alabama Award during this year’s 65th Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival.
He was also presented a Patron Award from the Iberia Bank.
The OCAC is located at 107 S. Main Street in downtown Opp, across from Wells Fargo.
