2 barns destroyed, power outages plentiful
Covington County sustained some damages from yesterday’s storm system.
EMA Director Susan Harris said that there was one church – Sweetwater Baptist Church – that received minor damage.
One house was struck by lightning, one house had minor damage, two barns were destroyed and one barn had minor damage, she said.
“(The majority of the damage) was in the north part of the county, county Road 30, Gantt-Red Level Road and Point A Road,” she said.
Covington Electric Cooperative had nearly 1,450 members without power across Coffee, Crenshaw and Covington counties Monday morning.
“The vast majority of those outages were in Covington County,” spokesperson Patty Singleton-Seay said. “Crews have been working all day to restore service to our members and they will continue to work until power is restored to al members.”
Around 3 p.m., Singleton-Seay said there were still 235 members without power and the vast majority was in Covington County.
