Opening Day excitement

There was plenty of action on Saturday as the City of Andalusia held their Opening Day Ceremonies at Johnson Park for the 2017 youth baseball and softball season.

“Opening Day went fairly well,” City of Andalusia Leisure Services assistant program director Bobby Johns said. “There were a few hiccups, but that is to be expected when you have that many people in one place. Overall, it was a pretty good day.”

Games got started around 8 o’clock Saturday morning with every team in the different leagues playing at some point during the day.

“Most of the games went pretty smooth,” Johns said. “There were a few games that go behind schedule, but for the most part they moved right along.”

After the first block of games finished, every player on every team walked out on the field for an introduction and other Opening Day activities.

Johns said that starting this week, there will be games on most Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights until May 18.
