A domestic violence call to an Opp apartment led to a man facing a slew of charges and him allegedly running over a police officer’s foot.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said that officers were dispatched to an apartment on Carver Court on Sunday night.

“As the officers arrived, a vehicle left the scene at a high rate of speed refusing to stop after being directed to do so by an officer,” he said. “The vehicle struck one officer who was on foot, causing slight injuries.”

McDonald identified the driver as Jason T. Lane, 39, of Opp.

McDonald said that Lane stopped the vehicle and ran toward the apartment and again refused to comply with the officer’s verbal commands.

“When Lane turned and moved toward an officer, a taser was deployed and Lane was taken into custody,” he said.

McDonald said a subsequent investigation by OPD investigators resulted in Lane being charged with burglary third degree, domestic violence – criminal mischief, assault second degree with a motor vehicle, harassment, reckless endangerment, obstruction of governmental operations, disorderly conduct and attempting to elude law enforcement officers.

He was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $169,500 bond.
