Red Level High School is searching for its next director of bands.

RLHS principal Randy McGlaun confirmed Wednesday that current director Demetrius Scott has tederred his resignation effective at the end of the school year.

“Any time a teacher leaves there are mixed emotions,” he said. “The selfish side of me would like to keep Mr. Scott at Red Level because he is a fantastic band director, teacher and friend. However, I know Mr. Scott and his family have a bright future ahead of them.”

Scott announced via social media Tuesday evening that he had taken the director of bands position at Demopolis High School.

He said Wednesday that leaving his students after 4.5 years is hard.

“I had to tell my kids that I am leaving Red Level as director of bands,” he said. “This was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do in life.”

He will assume the Demopolis High School job in the summer.

McGlaun said they are currently seeking applicants for the job.

“The job will run from April 18 to May 1,” he said. “If we are able to make the hire at our May 2 board meeting, it would give us a month of school left for the transition. Having Mr. Scott available during the transition will be tremendous.”

The job announcement says that that an applicant must hold a valid teacher’s certification.

The system is asking for endorsements in music, vocal-choral; general music; and music, instrumental.

“The individual coming in will find incredible and talented students awaiting him as well as supportive faculty, staff, booster club and community,” McGlaun said.
