After a long wait and a few delays, the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs are set to open up play on their new softball facility on the Andalusia High School campus today.
“I think the girls are very excited to play at the new facility,” Lady Bulldog head coach Anthony Mikel said. “They have really been patient through the whole process, but I know they are ready to break in the new field.”
Mikel said that there have been many people who had a hand in getting the place ready.
“There have been a lot of students and players that have really been instrumental in getting everything ready,” Mikel said. “I think this is going to be a really great deal, and a year from now, it will be even better.”
Tonight, the Lady Bulldogs will not only be celebrating the opening of their new facility, but the Lady Bulldogs will also honor two players for Senior Night.
Seniors Aaliyah Lawrence and Haley Harper said that they are ready to play on the new field.
“It’s very exciting,” Harper said. “We’ve have been waiting for this for a long time, and it’s going to be very special.”
Lawrence had similar feelings about the opening.
“I might cry when we go out there,” Lawrence said. “It kind of worked out to make it a very special night. Opening the field and having Senior Night on the same night is going to be a very special moment for all of us.”
The seniors said that they have really enjoyed their time playing at Andalusia.
“This is just a really great place to play,” Lawrence said. “There may be teams that are better, but we are family. We all love each other.”
Harper echoed Lawrence’s feelings about her teammates.
“There is no closer group of girls than what we have here,” Harper said. “Win or lose, it’s been fun, and that’s how I want to remember my senior year.”
Opening ceremony activities will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the first game starting at 4. Senior Night will held after the first game.
