Man charged for synthetic pot

A burglary investigation Wednesday led to the arrest of a man charged with trafficking synthetic marijuana.

The investigation began when deputies responded to a burglary call on Jessica Lane, just off of Hwy. 55 South.

While at the residence of someone deputies believed to be involved, they made contact with four subjects. Deputies smelled marijuana, and contacted the 22nd Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, whose agents executed a search warrant.

Officers located more than 100 grams of synthetic marijuana in the residence, and Reginald Thompson from Opp confessed that the items were his.

Thompson was charged with drug trafficking more than 56 grams of synthetic marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $253,000 bond.
