The Andalusia Bulldog soccer team advances to the second round of the 2017 AHSAA state playoffs after shutting out the UMS-Wright Bulldogs 4-0 on Thursday night in Andalusia.

“The kids did an amazing job tonight just staying focused on the task at hand,” Andalusia head coach Jarrett Williamson said. “We were focused on winning the small battles and we did a good job with that. We really have some seniors stepping up and leading this team.”

After a defensive battle to start the contest, Andalusia jumped on top when Wain Yongkuma knocked in his first goal of the game off an assist from Kiki Wain.

Andalusia continued to keep the ball on the UMS side of the pitch and kept just missing shots on the goal.

A few minutes later, Yongkuma made juke near the goal, side stepped a UMS defender and then fired in a shot off the top crossbar for a 2-0 Andalusia lead heading into halftime.

Kiki Wain gave Andalusia a 3-0 advantage early in the second half with a strong goal.

Minutes later, Yongkuma completed the hat trick with his third goal of the contest.

“It’s like I tell everyone, just play like it’s a regular game,” Yongkuma said. “We wanted to just go out there have fun and do what we needed to do.”

The win gives Andalusia their first soccer playoff victory.

“I was nervous at first, but once the game got going it was just a normal game and it was fun,” Senior Adam Peek said of the Andalusia win.

Adam Peek and other members of the Andalusia defense shut down UMS-Wright.
