The Andalusia Bulldogs are moving on to the third round of the AHSAA Class 5A-4A soccer state tournament after knocking off the Eufaula Tigers 4-1 on Tuesday night in Andalusia.

Both teams made pushes to start the match, but both goalies kept the game scoreless for the first 13 minutes.

Andalusia struck first when Wain Yongkuma sent a rocket into the back of the net for a 1-0 Bulldog lead.

The Bulldogs continued to put pressure on the Eufaula defense and narrowly missed adding to their lead on a few occasions.

Kiki Wain came charged down the pitch and then sent a pass through traffic that found Logan Adams rushing towards the goal.

Adams pumped a shot off the top of  the crossbar and into the side of the net for 2-0 Andalusia advantage.

Eufuala got a goal quickly to start the second half, and spent the first few minutes of the final frame with the ball on the Andalusia side of the pitch.

Andalusia goalie Franklin Osario made several key stops including a full extension dive to keep Eufuala from tying the match.

The Bulldogs responded and tacked on additional goals.

Jaden Brown sent a header into the back of the net off an assist from Adam Peek.

About 10 minutes later, with the time winding down Brown streaked toward the goal and hammered a shot over the sliding Eufuala goalie for the final goal of the game.

“The biggest thing tonight was that we challenged them to set the tone early,” Andalusia head coach Jarrett Williamson said. “The seniors led the charge and they had everyone ready to go tonight. We are glad to get a win and to continue moving on.”

Williamson said he liked how the Bulldogs responded when Eufaule made it a one-score game.

“They got it to 2-1 and could have let them back in it,” Williamson said. “The kids really pulled together and continued to make things happen. Franklin (Osario) had an incredible game tonight for us. He made several big stops.”

The Bulldogs will play next week against Catholic or St. James for round three.
