Andalusia area residents felt as if they were in a time warp for part of the day Wednesday when cell phones stopped working, and CenturyLink Internet customers also were without service for several hours.

Interruptions in service also were reported in Greenville and Elba.

The outages, were caused when a fiber optic line was accidentally cut.

A spokesperson for CenturyLink said technicians restored service to the Andalusia area at approximately 3 p.m. CST. “The service outage was due to a third-party fiber cut,” the spokesperson said. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”
