Andy prepares for sub-state

The Andalusia Bulldogs recently had two golfers qualify for Monday’s AHSAA Golf Sub-State Championship in Montgomery.

With four available spots left for the state championship, three Andalusia golfers put up strong showings at Sectional tournament in Mobile.

Adam Kilpatrick, Jack McCalman and Parker Kelley participated in the sectional tournament with hopes of clinching a spot in sub-state.

Kilpatrick put up a strong showing and led all golfers on the course with a score of 76.

The eighth grader, Kilpatrick, was the only player in field of juniors and seniors to shoot in the 70s.

McCalman finished the day tied for the fourth spot with a score of 87 and then punched his ticket to sub-state after topping golfers from UMS-Wright and LAMP in a sudden death playoff.

“Jake won his first playoff hole with a par,” Andalusia head coach Howard Battey said. “Adam and Jack will now move on to the sub-state match on Monday.”

The sub-state match will be held Mon., May 8 at the Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery.

During the regular season, the Bulldogs won, as a team, six out of nine matches.

Kilpatrick, McCalman and Kelley held the top three spots for the Bulldogs all season.
