Variety of cases on docket

According to the Criminal Trial Docket for the 22nd Judicial Circuit there are 23 cases set to go before Circuit Judge Lex Short this month.
The following are currently on the docket:
- Tony Lamar Veasey Sr., who is charged with rape I, sodomy I, sex abuse of a child under 12, and enticing a child. His attorney is Rod Sylvester. Grace Jeter will represent the state;
- Kanavis Cole, who is charged with murder and attempted murder. He is represented by Gary Bradshaw. District Attorney Walt Merrell will represent the state;
Cole is the suspect in the 2014 nightclub shooting at Little Harlem Club on Hardin Street in Opp.
- Kevin Dewayne Owens, who is charged with burglary III, criminal mischief III, stalking II, driving under the influence, open container, and no driver’s license. He is represented by Bill Alverson. Trisha Mellberg will represent the state. Owens, a former police officer and sheriff candidate was arrested in August 2014 for allegedly breaking and entering the home of the victim in a sexual misconduct case to which he pleaded guilty.
- Trenton Isaac Driver, who is charged with transmitting obscene material to a child electronic solicitation of a child. He is represented by James Parkman III. Sam Clenney III is representing the state. Driver was arrested in May 2014 during a joint investigation among the CCSO and the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.
- Richard William Smet, who is charged with receiving stolen property II, possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia. William Alverson is representing Smet. Grace Jeter will represent the state;
- Vance Gary Gettis, for burglary III and theft of property I. Rod Sylvester is representing Gettis, and Merrell is representing the state;
- Mandi Brianna Harrison, for rape II and sodomy II. Bill Alverson is her attorney. Emmett Massey will represent the state. Harrison was one of several women in Opp arrested for having sexual contact with a minor under the age of 16.
- Darian T. Hamilton, who is charged with possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is represented by Manish Patel, and Merrell will represent the state.
- Billy Charles Childers for possession of marijuana I, false ID to obstruct justice and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sylvester is his attorney and Massey will represent the state;
- Melvin James Lawrence, possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. Benton Parsons is his attorney and Jeter is the state’s representative.
- Brandon Curtis Chance for possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. Chris Sledge is his attorney and Massey is the prosecutor.
- Joe Neil Tellis, promoting prison contraband II, possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. Larry Grissett is representing Tellis. Massey is the prosecutor.
- Curtis Antrode Crawford for possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. Paul Adams is his attorney and Jeter will prosecute.
- Casey Michael Tether for possession of marijuana I, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication. Parsons will represent him. Massey is the prosecutor.
- Clayton Edward Akiwenzie for possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. Riley Powell will represent him. Jeter is the prosecutor.
- Benjamin Bernard Moody, for possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. Meredith Peters is his attorney. Merrell will prosecute.
- Jamal Dywan Lee for possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sylvester is his attorney. Massey will prosecute.
- Johnny Mandeal McClain for possession of marijuana I and possession of drug paraphernalia. W. Alverson is his attorney and Massey is the prosecutor.
- Timothy O. Broaden for trafficking in illegal drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Corey Bryan is his attorney. Massey is the prosecutor.
- Vernon Scott Wambles for theft of property II. Parsons is his attorney and Merrell is the prosecutor.
- Willie Ray Campbell for assault II, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Sledge is his attorney. Merrell will represent the state.
- Tambre Renee Gay for trafficking, possession of marijuana II, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license was suspended. Bryan is her attorney and Massey is the prosecutor.
- Bobby Cecil Ammons Jr., for trafficking, possession of marijuana II, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempted to elude, driving while licensed revoked, and reckless driving. Sylvester is his attorney and Jeter is the prosecutor.
