Jones is LBWCC Outstanding Alumnus

LBW Community College named Rep. Mike Jones Jr. as the 2017 Outstanding Alumnus and will recognize him at the annual commencement ceremony in Andalusia this Fri., May 12, 2017.
“We are pleased to recognize Rep. Jones for his many accomplishments, both during his time at LBW and all he has achieved after graduation,” said LBWCC President Dr. Herb Riedel.
Jones, a member of the Alabama House of Representatives for Dist. 92 and House Judiciary Committee Chairman, is a 1987 LBWCC honors graduate. He served as president of the Student Government Association on the Andalusia campus.
In 1989, he earned a four-year degree from Birmingham Southern College, and completed a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1992 at the University of Alabama’s School of Law.
Jones is also a past president of the LBWCC Foundation Board of Directors, served as Andalusia City Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem, and is past chairman of the Southeast Alabama Gas District Board of Directors.
He has been recognized as an Eagle Scout; named as a “Rising Star among Alabama Legislators” by the Mobile Press Register in 2011; attended the 2012 Emerging Leaders Conference at the University of Virginia; and in 2013 received the Alabama Superintendents’ Association “Power of One Award” and the Alabama Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance “Silver Spoon Award.”
Jones is a member of Alabama Law Institute Family Law Committee, Alabama State Bar Family Law Section, Covington County Bar Association, Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce, South Alabama Gun Club, and First Baptist Church of Andalusia where he is a deacon, trustee, and chairman of the building fund committee, and is past chairman of the Family Ministry Committee.
Jones has served as a Special Covington County Circuit Judge without compensation, and is the current City of Andalusia Municipal Judge. He has volunteered as a coach in the Andalusia Youth Soccer League, served as past chairman of the Andalusia Downtown Redevelopment Authority, is a past member of the Covington County Sheriff’s Posse and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
He is employed at the Law Offices of Mike Jones Jr. doing business as South Alabama Law, is married to Kathy Harper Jones, and has two children, Oliva and Sophia.
LBWCC’s commencement starts at 7 p.m. on May 12, 2017, in the Kiwanis Community Center in Andalusia.
