Kinston graduate Alyse Roberts said she decided to become a nurse to help people.

“I’ve always been interested in nursing,” she said. “I wanted to help people.”

Roberts stayed at home and attended Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, where she first earned her licensed practical nurse certification and then became a registered nurse in 2015.

She started working at Mizell Memorial Hospital in 2013.

“I started off in med surge as an LPN,” she said. “When I became an RN, I came to the ER.”

Roberts said she likes that the RN is more fast paced.

“You never know what’s gonna happen,” she said. “I still fill in in med surge.”

Roberts said that while nursing school can be challenging, those looking to become nurses shouldn’t give up.

“Don’t quit,” she said. “Nursing school can be hard. It feels like it’s never going to end. You will get there, and it will be worth it in the end.”
