Pleasant Home’s Shelly Wages says nursing is in her blood.

The 2003 graduate of PHS said her mom is a also nurse.

After high school graduation, Wages attended Troy University, where she majored in nursing and became a registered nurse.

“It’s in my blood,” she said. “And I really like helping people.”

She said she’s spent most of her nursing career in labor and delivery or working in the nursing home.

She made the switch to hospice nursing in October.

“Hospices are a big asset at the nursing home,” she said. “I saw how they helped people.”

Wages said she’s never been afraid of dying or end of life stuff.

“It’s almost like a ministry,” she said. “And it’s something I wanted to try. Everyone can’t do it.”

Wages said she likes the job.

“I’ve learned a lot,” she said. “I work with some great people. It’s wonderful to help people at this stage.”
