Local families looking for something to do next Saturday night can see a movie under the stars.
The Opp Khelpanan Society will show “The Sandlot.”
The show begins at 7 p.m.
“We are excited about our upcoming event ‘A Movie Under the Stars, on May 20, featuring ‘The Sandlot.’” said Lisa Adamson, public relations coordinator for the Khelpanan Society. “The Opp Khelpanan Society is a non-profit organization that focuses on community enhancement and preservation. Our core values are service, leadership, friendship, and citizenship. Our mission is to provide leadership and promote volunteerism and service for the benefit of families, businesses and entities in our community.”
Adamson said the organization sponsors several fundraising events throughout the year to raise money that is used for things such as college scholarships for seniors, school supplies for the schools, anti-bullying programs, Full Tummy Project and other needs in the community.
The movie event will be held on the grass behind Becky’s Kinder Kollege, located at 1603 N. Main Street in Opp.
Drinks will be available for purchase from the Pepsi Wagon for $1 per cup, she said.
Admission is $5 per person and includes a bag of popcorn.
Adamson encouraged families to bring chairs and blankets.
“When Scottie Smalls moves to a new neighborhood, he manages to make friends with a group of kids who play baseball at the sandlot. Together they go on a series of funny and touching adventures. The boys run into trouble when Smalls borrows a ball from his stepdad that gets hit over a fence,” according to the movie synopsis.
