Lakehouse reopens, offers rooms with a view

After being closed for several months, a former Florala bed and breakfast has been opened as a guesthouse.

Owner Ann Shields said Florala Lakehouse is a great place for family getaways, retreats, and hunters who visit the area in the fall.

“It’s fully furnished, and has everything you would need to cook and have a great time,” she said. “I’m really looking for people who want to come for family reunions, or a wedding in the area. I don’t offer my house for weddings, but would love to have families stay.

“I’m renting it like a guesthouse,” she said. “It has six bedrooms and five bathrooms, plus a 900-square-foot deck overlooking Lake Jackson.”

Each bedroom is equipped with a flat screen television and decorated with skillfully blended mixes of antiques, flea market finds and personal favorites. The facility sleeps 12 to 14 people.

“It’s very comfortable and homey,” she said. “I have a huge table that seats 12, so it also would be a great place for scrap bookers to gather.”

Shields said the rates are affordable because she wants to be booked every weekend.

There is a three-night minimum for weekends, when rentals are $250 per night, plus a cleaning fee. The weekly rate is seven nights for $1,000, and the monthly rate is $4,000 for 30 days.

The facility can be booked by calling Shields at 334.858.2070, or online at floralalakehouse.com.
