The Andalusia Bulldog football team wrapped up spring training on Monday afternoon with a Red and White game at Andalusia High School.

“The ones (first string) got right at 32 plays in today,” Andalusia head football coach Trent Taylor said. “That’s about one half of football. As far as how we looked, it was much better than last year, but we aren’t ready to play yet. That’s why we play these games.”

After losing several players off last year’s fourth-round playoff team to graduation, Taylor said he was pleased with what he saw from the younger guys.

“There are a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball this year,” Taylor said. “I thought they looked good on both sides of the ball. This was a good opportunity for us to see how some of these guys look on film.”

The Bulldogs split time running the first team and bench players on the field.

“Today, we got to see several different running backs,” Taylor said. “I was pleased with how the carried the ball. The good thing about them is that they all bring something different to the table.”

There were also several new faces on the offensive line, Taylor said.

“We have some new guys playing on the line this year and they looked good today,” Taylor said. “They were opening up some nice running lanes and the backs were taking advantage of that. We still aren’t ready, but we’ve got about 100 days to get ready for that first game.”
