The Straughn Tigers will wrap up spring training with a scrimmage game Saturday at Jacksonville State University.

“We want to use this as a spring board for improvement,” new Straughn head coach John Higgins said. “We need to pay attention to detail and do the techniques that we are coached.”

Playing in the spring jamboree is something that Higgins hopes helps build to future success.

“We want to get tougher and more disciplined,” Higgins said. “This is an important time for us to do these things. A game like this will help prepare us for when the season gets started in August.”

Higgins said that the spring training practice and game help set the tone for the year.

“We want to play hard and play smart,” Higgins said. “The biggest thing we want to do is to learn how to trust each other and become a team.”

Straughn will be one of 13 teams on hand competing in the Jacksonville State University spring jamboree.

The Tigers will play Sat., May 20 at 11:05 a.m., against Pisgah.

Other teams include; Tarrant, Locust Fork, Montevallo, Lanett, Lee-Huntsville, Chattooga (Ga.), Vincent, Billingsley, Cedar Bluff, Lynn and Fayetteville.

All games will be played at Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium.
