Lightning was responsible for two total loss home fires in the Point A area of the county within hours of each other Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Brandon Holland, spokesperson for the River Falls Fire Department and vice president of the county fire association, said that the first fire occurred on Holiday Hill Road around 10:30 p.m., Saturday.

“It was a two-story residence,” he said.

The home is located in the Heath Fire District, he said.

“Fire and smoke was showing,” Holland said.

Gantt and River Falls volunteer fire departments were called to assist.

“The residents were at home at the time of the fire,” he said. “They confirmed that lightning struck their home.”

There were no injuries, but the home was considered a total loss.

While the fire departments were busy extinguishing the fire on Holiday Hill Road, they also were dispatched to a residence on Lake Estates Drive.

“It was struck by lightning,” Holland said. “It was a residence, but it was a lake house and not the family’s main house. There was no one there at the time.”

Holland said the call came out around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

“River Falls was still assisting Heath when the call came out,” he said. “It was a total loss.”
