Two juveniles have been arrested for the theft of two golf carts at an Opp retailer.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said that at approximately 9 a.m., Thursday, a concerned citizen observed suspicious activity at J.R.’s Lawnmower Shop, which is located on West Cummings Avenue.

“Staff at the business determined that a Yahama Golf Cart valued at $4,000 was stolen and driven away,” he said. “The Opp Police Department was notified and investigators opened a case on this theft.”

McDonald said that during the investigation, they determined that a second golf cart valued at $6,500 was also stolen from J.R.’s.

“The investigation resulted in the recovery and return of both of the stolen golf carts during the afternoon hours of May 25,” McDonald said. “Two juveniles ages 16 and 17, were arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with theft of property first degree.”

McDonald said the Department of Youth Services has released both juveniles to their parents.

“The Opp Police Department encourages citizens to be watchful for suspicious activity and immediately report suspicious activity to the Opp Police Department or their local law enforcement agency,” he said. “This one phone call opened the investigation that led to the recovery of $10,500 worth of stolen property and the arrest of two individuals that stole the property. We thank the citizen that took the time to make this phone call.”
