Flora Marie Mallette Roland

Mrs. Flora Marie Mallette Roland, age 88, of Andalusia, passed away Fri., May 26, 2017.

Mrs. Roland was born in Andalusia on Dec. 23, 1928, to Mr. and Mrs. William Aubrey Mallette.

She was a loving wife and mother. She married her high school sweetheart, Dr. William Robert Roland, on June 2, 1954. They shared abiding and extraordinary love, devotion, and respect for each other for 63 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Celia Marie Roland Smyly (Carl) and Ms. Mary Lynn Roland Williams of Birmingham; five grandchildren, Miss Marie Margaret Smyly of Gulf Shores, Mr. Robert Allen Smyly, Mr. Franklin Aubrey Smyly, Mrs. Mary Katherine Williams Bartlett (Andrew), all of Birmingham, and Mrs. Lauren Alane Williams Rogers (John) of Mobile. Mrs. Roland is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Michaelyn Mallette Zorn (Jack), and her nieces and nephews, Mrs. Suzanne Boyington (Roger), Mrs. Flora Talada (Richard), Mr. Steve Roland (Cindy), and Mr. Mike Roland (Debbie).

Mrs. Roland graduated from Andalusia High School in 1947, attended Judson College, and graduated from Huntingdon College in 1951. She received her master’s degree from Troy State University. For more than three decades, Mrs. Roland was a beloved English teacher and mentor to thousands of high school students. Her teaching career included tenures in Jacksonville and Sanford, Fla., Birmingham and Florala, Ala., at Pleasant Home School, and more than 20 years at Straughn High School.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Bill Hamiter, Mr. Ward Fisher, Mr. Charlie Cope, Mr. Ashton Wells, Mr. Ralph Wells, Dr. Mike Wells, Mr. Steve Roland, Mr. Mike Roland, Dr. Roger Boyington, Mr. Richard Talada.

Visitation will be held at Foreman’s Funeral Home in Andalusia Wed., May 31, from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Andalusia, followed by a graveside service at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Dr. Jason Thrower will officiate the service.

She will be remembered by her family and friends for her contagious laughter, happy, fun-loving spirit, her unmatched beauty and her compassion for others.

Memorials in Mrs. Roland’s honor may be made to the First United Methodist Church building fund.

Leon Ballard

Mr. Leon Ballard of McKenzie passed away Sun., May 28, 2017, at his residence after a stoic battle with cancer. He was 66.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wed., May 31, 2017, at Bushfield Cemetery (Red Level) with military honors. The Rev. Larry Smith will officiate. Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia is entrusted with arrangements.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ballard of McKenzie; sons, Richard Leon (Samantha) Ballard of California, Adam R. (Deedra) Clark, and Charles A. Ballard; daughter, Jessica D. Reeves of Andalusia; brothers, Winfred (Jeanete) Ballard, Earl (Blanche) Ballard, and Gene (Eunice) Ballard, all of McKenzie; grandchildren, Cameron Ballard, Gabriel Ballard, Ariel Clark, Megan Lee, Trevor Clark, Gillis Royals, McKenna Reeves, Starla Ballard, and Daniel Clark; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Lamar Ballard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gillis Royals, James Neal, Trevor Clark, Lamar Lawson, Dusty Lawson, and Joel Kervin.

The Ballards attend Grace Baptist Church. Mr. Ballard worked as a managing forester with Union Camp Wood Products and served in the U.S. National Guard. He was a 1969 graduate of McKenzie High School.

 

Ashley Nicole Kelley Lundy

Ms. Ashley Nicole Kelley Lundy passed away Fri., May 26, at her residence. She was 25 years old.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thurs., June 1, 2017, at Babbie Baptist Church. The Rev. Dewayne Seay will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home of Lockhart directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Josh Byrd, Ronnie Hataway, Doug Dorman, Lamar Kendrick, Daryl Ziglar, and Earl Bedsole.

Ashley is survived by her husband, Hunter Lundy of Opp; mother, Patricia Ramer of DeFuniak Springs; father, Stephen Dewayne (Laura) Kelley of DeFuniak Springs; daughters, Clara-Lynn Maloy of Loango, Dashlynn Kelley of Opp and Raylynn Lundy of Opp; brother, Christopher Dewayne Kelley of DeFuniak Springs; sisters, Heather (Chris) Madden of Opp, and Amanda (Chase) Schultz of Opp; maternal grandmother, Clara Jeanette (Howard James) Money of Opp; and maternal grandfather, Eddie (Bebe) Sutton, Eustis Fla.

 

Gary Dean Corbitt

Gary Dean Corbitt, 59, of Davie, Fla., passed away Sat., May 27, 2017, peacefully at his home. Gary was born Oct. 18, 1957, the son of James Emmett Corbitt and Kathryn Dobbins Corbitt.

Gary graduated from Florala High School in 1975 and furthered his education at the University of Alabama where he received his master’s degree in education in 1981. While attending college, he also played the saxophone in the University’s Million Dollar Band. One he completed his education he went on to teach elementary classes in the Florida State School system.

Gary was a member of North Creek Lodge #746 and very active in his church and sang with the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida. He loved to travel and lived his life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Emmett Corbitt.

Survivors include his husband, Jonathan Nickens of Davie, Fla.; mother, Kathryn Dobbins Corbitt; and brother, David Corbitt (Charlotte) of Red Oak, Ala.

A memorial service will be hld at Red Oak Baptist Church on Sat., June 3, at 1:30 p.m. Gary’s wishes were for his remains to be placed in a memorial wall in the church he attended. Although Gary no longer lived in the state of Alabama, he remained an avid fan of the Crimson Tide of Alabama.

 

Linda Adams

Mrs. Linda Adams of Andalusia passed away Tues., May 30, 2017. She was 64 years old.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thurs., June 1, 2017, at Zion Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Roger Lee will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia directing. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Keahey Chapel in Andalusia and at the church one hour prior to the services on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Jerome Hawkins, Will Baldwin, Robert Graham, Scottie Kelley, Jeremiah Arthur, Gage Arthur, Joey Hall and Dalton Adams.

Mrs.Adams is survived by her husband, Ronald Dwight Adams of Andalusia; daughters, Amanda Davis, Rhonda Adams, and Christy (Jerome) Hawkins all of Andalusia; brother, Jack F. Dean Jr. of Montgomery; grandchildren, Jeremiah Arthur, Will Baldwin, Gage Arthur, Cheyenne Graham, Dalton Adams, Erin Riley and Jordan Hawkins.
