Locals sitting strong for final

Several local rodeo stars are sitting in top spots after a big day in Friday’s Alabama Junior Rodeo Association state finals second go.

Mary Beth Alexander blistered the competition in the girls 6-8 pole bending event.

Alexander finished third in the event on Thursday and came in first on Friday with a time of 22.157.

Grace Schulz finished with a time of 23.751 and Greycen Worley finished with a time of 23.753.

The next event up was the K-5 pole bending competition.

A few fast times were put up early in the event, but none faster than Laynee Jo Pettis.

Pettis shoot out of the gate like a rocket and weaved flawlessly the poles for a winning time of 22.645.

In the K-5 team roping event, Braxton Bozeman and Zoey Carpenter were the only team to qualify for the event at the state finals.

The team just missed a successful run, but are still assured of a spot in the today’s short go.

In girls 6-8 goat tying, several local girls put up strong scores.

Alexander finished with a time of 17.32.

Schulz came in with a time of 18.28.

Brynne Spurlin finished with a time of 21.75.

Worley finished with a time of 24.71
