The Gantt Fire Department Monday afternoon responded to a fire off of Sandy Landing Road.

Fire Chief Scott Fight said they received the call around 3:16 p.m.

“When we got there on scene about 16 minutes later, we thought it was a shed, but it was a house,” Fight said. “It had been burning for about 30 minutes before.”

Fight said the house was completely on the ground.

Fight said the fire department was notified when someone walking noticed smoke. The home was a total loss, he said

“All that was left was the steel frame, refrigerator, stove, fireplace and window unit,” he said. “It even burnt up the upper part of the swimming pool.”

Fight said it was a hot fire and they didn’t know the cause. He could not immediately identify the owners.

“The fire marshal’s office is investigating,” he said.

They were assisted by the River Falls Fire Department.
