Florala Masonic celebration kicks off next weekend

The City of Florala is preparing to kick off the 147th consecutive Florala Masonic Celebration.

The festivities kick off Sat., June 17, with a Bass Fishing Tournament from 6 a.m. until noon at Lake Jackson in Florala, followed by the 5K Alligator Trot at Lake Jackson at 8 a.m. That day’s activities conclude with the always humorous Womanless Beauty Pageant at Florala High School starting at 7 p.m.

On Mon., June 19, the MASTAR Building will host the W.S. Harlan Art Exhibit from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., which will be followed by the “Anything Goes Parade” at 6 p.m.

Registration for the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. at the MASTAR Building and immediately following the parade there will be a Children’s Water Battle on the square.

There will be a big carnival Tues., June 20, through Sat., June 24.

On June 20, there will also be a Little Miss 24th of June Pageant at FHS starting at 7 p.m. There will be divisions for babies, toddlers, petite, tiny and Little Miss 24th of June.

On June 21, FHS Booster and Alumni Sports Club will host a supper and auction from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., and there will be a gospel concert at FHS featuring the Bush Family from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Thomas A. McQueen is hosting a Money Scramble at Lake Jackson on June 22 at 5 p.m., followed by a number of a children’s events at Lake Jackson at 6 p.m., and the Miss 24th of June Beauty Pageant at FHS at 7 p.m. Divisions will include teen, junior and Miss 24th of June.

Simply Chic is hosting a Children’s Chalk Drawing Contest at 5 p.m. on June 23 and the crowning of Sweetheart and Mason of the Year will take place at a dinner served by Order of the Easter Star Lodge #441 at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a street dance at the RJ Evans Building featuring The Chad Street Band at 9 p.m. as well.

The JRB Trees and Lil’ Smoke House Car Show, at the RJ Evans Building, kicks off Sat., June 24, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

There will also be a Masonic March beginning at 8:40 a.m. followed by Music on the Square from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

FHS Band Boosters are hosting a Arts and Crafts Show at Lake Jackson from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and another parade begins at 11 a.m. with first, second and third place floats receiving cash prizes.

LifeSouth will be hosting a Blood Drive at noon and there will be more children’s events at Lake Jackson beginning at 3 p.m.

Another water battle will erupt on 5th Avenue at 5 p.m. and the week of festivities will close out with another street dance featuring the Riverchase Band at the RJ Evans Building and a fireworks display at Lake Jackson at 9 p.m.
