Rev. C. L. Dyess, 93, of the Straughn community, passed away Mon., June 12, 2017, in the Andalusia hospital.

Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Wed., June 14, at Cross Way Ministry with ministers Derrick Stewart, Chad Griggs, and Jackie Davis officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at South Church of God Cemetery in Red Level with Foreman Funeral Home directing.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Dyess of the Straughn community; four daughters and sons-in-law, Unita and Wimpy Gillespie of Hillsboro, Ala., La Verne Heffner, La Ferne and Gene Griggs of Andalusia, and Mary Jo and Jackie Davis of Evergreen; three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny L. and Dorothy Dyess of Dothan, Wendell F. and Shirley Dyess, and Adrian and Tina Dyess of the Straughn community; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Dyess of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Dorothy Morgan and Sarah Hawkins of Mobile.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Danley, Jeff Ramsey, Mark Hidle, Stanley Peters, Dustin Dyess, Dylan Dyess, and Chad Griggs.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Josh Danley, Trevor Ramsey, Spencer Ramsey, Troy Hidle, Ben Varner, Brody Stewart, Bryce Stewart, and Michael Riley.

Russell Derrel Johns

Mr. Russell Derrel Johns, Jr., 61, of Opp died Mon., June 12, 2017, in Mizell Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Good Hope Cemetery in Dozier, Alabama. Visitation for friends will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at Wyatt Funeral Home.

Mr. Johns is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Jake & Tori Johns; son, Russell Worley; daughters, Jennifer Johns and Heidi Johns; parents, Russell Derrel Johns, Sr. & Annette Adams Johns; brother, Kenny Johns (Kim); sisters, Susie Sightler (Ricky), Kathy Thorne (Rick), Patsy Stinson (Bruce) and Nancy O’Rourke (Sean); special friend, Janice Tabios; grandchildren, Taylor Nelson, Hayden Johns, Maycie Johns, Clay Bowdoin, Mikaili Gunn and Evan Sutton; and mother of his children & friend, Donna Frost.

W.H. Wilson will be officiating with Wyatt Funeral Home directing.

 

Marjorie Carnley

Ms. Marjorie Carnley of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Andalusia, passed away May 31, 2017, in North Mesa, Ariz. She was 92 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wed., June 14, at Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia. The Rev. Bill Boles will officiate. Burial will follow at Adellum Baptist Church with Keahey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.

Ms. Carnley is survived by her brothers, Phillip Ivey of Arkansas, Buck Ivey of Mobile, and Ferrel Ivey of Prattville; sister, Sarah Grice of Andalusia; grandchildren, Ken Carnley, Michelle Dickerson, Rod Earl and Brandon Carnley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Carnley; son Clay Carnley; and daughter, Mildred Earl.

 

Waymon Julius Bass

Mr. Waymon Julius Bass, 50, of Augusta, Ga., passed away Wed., May 17, 2017, at Augusta University Hospital with his children by his side.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sat., June 17, 2017, at Adellum Baptist Church with Brother Billy Boles officiating. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Hawn Bass; one son, Richard Alan Bass; two daughters, Brandi Anne Bass and Amber Nicole (Nikki) Bass; and six adored grandchildren, Jasmine, Kenneth, Kayla, Brianna, Brayden, and Audrey, all of Augusta, Ga.; his mother, Carolyn Garvin (C.T.) Adkison of Wing; two sisters, Donna Bass (Chris) Maraman of Wetumpka and Lesley Ballard of Andalusia; one nephew, Sabin K. (Bridgette) Shreve of Andalusia, and one very special aunt, Elvira Bass (Charlie) Baker of Tallassee, Ala.

He is preceded in death by his father, Julius Ike Bass of Andalusia.

Glenda Elaine Mott

Mrs. Glenda Elaine Mott, age 86, formerly of Andalusia, passed away Thurs., June 8, 2017, at a Florida hospital.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Sat., June 10, 2017, from Buck Creek Baptist Church with Brother Luther Armstrong officiating the service. Interment followed in Mott Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation was prior to services at the church.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jack C. and Denise F. Mott, Jr. of Valparaiso, Fla., and Larry E. and Kim Mott of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jay (Rachel) Mott of Niceville, Fla., Ambre Mott (William) Doolan of Austin, Texas, Chad (Brianna) Mott of Niceville, FL, Blake (Charlotte) Mott of Los Angeles, CA, Chandler Mott of Houston, TX, Morgan Mott of Austin, Texas, and Taylor Mott of Houston, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Lilly Grace Mott, Jax Solomon Mott, Lane Katherine Doolan, Riley Ella Doolan, Millie Loree Doolan, and Cason Hartley Mott; and sister-in-law, Pat Williams of Geneva, Ala.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Mott, Sr.

Hammett

Mr. James Artis Hammett, age 89, of Opp, passed away Fri., June 9, 2017, at Andalusia Manor.

Funeral services were held at 3 p..m. Sun., June 11, 2017, from Macedonia United Methodist Church with Brother Benjy Wilkinson officiating the service. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church.

He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, James R. “Bob” and Tammy Hammett and William “Mike” Hammett, all of Dozier; daughters and sons-in-law, Helen Lynn and Jimmy Michael Dean of Dozier and Linda Sue and Rickey Willis of Andalusia; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Cupiedean and Doug Eiland of Montgomery, Joyce and Therman Grimes of Dozier, and Annie Joe Moore of Dozier; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sylvester Hammett and Emily Myrtice Barlow Hammett; wife, Mildred Eloise Hammett; granddaughter, Tashea Hammett; three brothers; and four sisters.

Pallbearers will include Jimmy Hammett, Johnny Hammett, Gary Moore, Tom Moore, Roger Moore, Mickey Hammett, and Shane Hammett.

Mr. Autrey R. Taylor of Mobile, formerly of Andalusia, passed away Sun., June 11, in Mobile. He was 79.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wed., June 14, 2017, at the Keahey Chapel in Andalusia. Burial will follow in the Old Bethesda Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tues., June 13, at Keahey Funeral Home.
