County OKs purchase of 8 more sirens

The county commission Tuesday OK’d the purchase of eight used sirens from Crenshaw County.

EMA Director Susan Harris said that the rebate money the county received for the out-of-commission sirens at Libertyville and Sanford would allow for the county to purchase all eight sirens at $1,000 each.

The county would only need to ante up $54.20 to make up the amount not covered by rebate money.

County Commission Chairman Greg White said he thought it was a good investment if the county was going to continue to operate weather sirens as part of weather notification.

Harris said the parts are becoming more difficult to find to repair sirens.

Commissioner Joe Barton said it was a no brainer.
