Fundraiser organized for resident battling cancer

Tee Terry of Caitie’s Army would give someone in need the shirt off her back, but now she needs help herself.

Sheila “Tee” Terry founded Caitie’s Army, in response to her niece, Andalusia native Caitie Rhodes, being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2008. The nonprofit organization of motorcycle enthusiasts helps children who are struggling with cancer and other illnesses, and their families.

Two years ago Terry herself was diagnosed with lung cancer. She initially beat the disease, but it returned in December.

“She is currently at Cancer Treatments of America and they’re trying to get her started with radiation soon,” Caitie’s Army member Tina Pate said. “We’re trying to help with expenses for her and her family, by selling Boston Butts. We are trying to make sure her and her family’s needs are taken care of.”

Caitie’s Army is currently taking orders for smoked Boston butts, which will be available for pickup on July 1, for $25.

Pate said that the group is looking for any help but would love to raise $2,500 to help out with all of the expenses that Terry – who is currently unemployed due to her illness – is facing and will face in the near future.

“We’re just trying to raise the most we can,” Pate said. “This woman, even when she was fighting cancer the first time and this time, did everything she could to help someone else and now we need to help her.”

A Boston Butt can be ordered by calling any member of Caitie’s Army. Pate can be reached at 334-343-0674, Chris Lee at 334-343-7882, Victoria Lee at 334-488-9099, Ronnie Rhodes at 334-343-0699 and Wade Beasley at 334-453-0346.

Pickup will be July 1, 2017 at 9 a.m. at either the Winn-Dixie parking lot in Andalusia or Choomolly’s parking lot in Georgiana.
