Dads come in all shapes and sizes.

Tomorrow, families with gather to celebrate the hard-working man of the house.

The Star-News caught up with some children spending time at Camp Sonshine at Southside Baptist Church on Friday to talk to them about their dads.

Five-year-old Ashlyn Morgan said she enjoys many things with her dad, Justin, but her favorite thing is going to the beach.

Gibson Craig, 6, said that his dad, Jeremy, takes him places he likes to go.

“I like to go to Big Kahuna’s, condos and hotels, to my uncles’ and aunts’ and friends’,” he said.

Tyler Levitzke, 9, said his dad, Ronnie, is funny.

“He takes me fishing, he coaches football and he really likes sports,” he said.

Ten-year-old Bryce Jernigan said he really enjoys spending time with his dad, Raustin.

“He takes me hunting and fishing,” he said. “I like that.”

Father’s Day goes back to June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington, but it was not until 58 years later that honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday.

In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued an executive order, designating the third Sunday in June as the official day for Father’s Day. Still, it wasn’t until President Richard Nixon’s administration in 1972 that Father’s Day was recognized as a federal holiday.

Other countries have also caught on to honoring fathers, as well.
