July may be considered by some to be the “lazy days of summer,” but that is not the case at LBW Community College. Activity is high as faculty and staff prepare for new student orientation and the beginning of fall semester.

“We urge those planning to attend fall semester classes to get started now on several required steps,” said Renée LeMaire, LBWCC public information officer and director of marketing.

All new students must complete an application packet, which includes an official transcript from high school or GED and all previous colleges, she said. Applications are available online at www.lbwcc.edu, or by visiting the Student Services office on any campus.

New students are also required to take placement assessments unless they have documentation of ACT scores of 18 or higher in English and 20 or higher in reading and math, she said.

Placement assessments at LBWCC in Andalusia are July 7, 21, and Aug. 17 at 9 a.m., and July 27 at 5:30 p.m. In Opp, dates are July 6, 20, and Aug. 17 at 1 p.m., and July 27 at 5:30 p.m.  Greenville’s dates are July 5, 19, and Aug. 16 at 1 p.m., and July 27 at 5:30 p.m.

Other dates all students should know include:

July 14 – Fall semester registration begins and runs through Aug. 17 when all fees and tuition are due by 5 p.m. The earlier students register, the easier it is to get a schedule that works best for them.  New students will meet with advisors and register for classes during the orientation sessions (see below).

July 14 – Enrollment applications available for tuition payment plan through NelNet Business Solutions. The earlier you enroll the longer the payment period. LBWCC’s website provides a link to the online application.

July 15 – Priority date for completion of online U.S. Government’s “Free Application for Federal Student Aid” (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov to accommodate adequate processing time. Completing this application is required annually for all those hoping to receive Pell Grant, work study funds, or other types of financial assistance. Be sure to include LBW’s code of 008988 on the application, then call the campus financial aid office to be sure your application is being processed.

July 17-19 – “LBWCC Experience” new student orientation will be held on each campus. The event will be held July 17 in Greenville, July 18 in Andalusia, and July 19 in Opp. New students need to register now by calling Heather Owen, director of recruitment, at 334-881-2320 or email howen@lbwcc.edu.

“We have staff and faculty ready to assist at any step during the process of becoming a college student at LBW,” said LeMaire. “Students can find a lot of information on the website, but don’t hesitate to call the College for assistance.”
