OPP BRINGING THE HEAT: Lady Bobcats 8U All-Stars topple Brewton

The Opp Lady Bobcats 8U All-Stars picked up a big 21-8 victory over Brewton in the opening round of the district tournament in Opp on Friday night.

Brewton had the bats going early in the contest and went on top 4-0 in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the first, Carelline Spears ripped a single and then came around to score on inside-the-park home run from Bella Lashley.

Riley Thrash then hammered a pitch up the middle of the diamond and made her way all the way around for home run.

The Lady Bobcats took the lead a few batters later when Lily Sumlin drove in three runs on another inside-the-park home run.

Opp continued to rip the cover off the ball as they grabbed an 8-4 lead heading into the second inning.

Brewton got a lead off single to start the second, but then Spears snagged a line drive and fired to first for a double play.

In the bottom of the second, the Lady Bobcats’ bats continued to be red hot as they piled on another eight runs in the frame.

Ryan Lanier started things with a single and then Rylie Rhoades laced a ball down the third base line for an inside-the-park home run to put Opp on top 10-4.

A few batters later, Lashley picked up her second inside-the-park home run to give the Lady Bobcats a 12-4 advantage.

Andrea Johnson then drove in a run with a single and Ashlyn Henderson followed with a RBI single of her own.

A two-RBI single from Sumblin then gave the Lady Bobcats a 16-4 lead.

Brewton got a one-out single in the top of third inning, but then Thrash tracked a down a hard hit ground ball to second, tagged the bag and fired to first an inning ending double play.

The Lady Bobcats got back-to-back singles from Rhoades and Lyla Bruce before a single from Lanier put the Lady Bobcats on top 17-4.

Lashley then came up for the third time in the game and cranked her third inside-the-park home run to put the Lady Bobcats up 20-4.

Crislyn Birge then drove in the final Lady Bobcat run with a single.

Brewton added four runs in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Bobcats came away with a 21-8 victory.
