CC All-Stars fall to Brewton

The Covington County 12U All-Stars battled through the loser’s bracket, but were eliminated from the district tournament in Brewton after losing a pair of games to Brewton on Saturday and Sunday.

COVINGTON 2

In the first game in the 12U district tournament on Saturday, Brewton came away with a 5-2 victory over the Covington County All-Stars.

Covington County pitcher Langham Ward Williams worked a strong inning in the top of the second as he limited the Brewton All-Stars to just one hit in the inning.

Brewton got a leadoff single to start the top of the third inning before Williams struck out the next batter for the first out of the inning.

Brewton then took advantage of a pair of Covington County errors to take a 4-0 lead.

Mason Anderson started off the bottom of the third with a single, but was thrown out a few batters later attempting to steal third.

In the bottom of the third inning, Brewton took advantage of another Covington County error to take a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Covington County got a leadoff single from Alex W that was followed by a single from Javen Poindexter.

Nathan Fowler put the Covington County All-Stars on the board when he drove in Poindexter with a single.

The final run of the game came when Ty Clark scored on a wild pitch.

COVINGTON 13,

EVERGREEN 2

The Covington County All-Stars staved off elimination as they knocked out Evergreen with a 13-2 victory on Saturday.

Poindexter doubled to start the contest, stole third and then scored on passed ball.

In the top of the second inning, Anderson struck out the side the keep the score 2-1.

Hawkins got things started with a single in the bottom of the second inning and moved to second when Clark reached on an error.

Grant Barnes then drove in Williams with a ground out to put Covington County up 4-2.

Anderson continued the strong work on the mound as he shut down Evergreen with three more strikeouts in the top of the third inning.

A single from Clark drove in a run and then he scored on a steal of home to put Covington County up 9-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Poindexter got things started with a single to left field and then scored on an error.

Fowler followed with a single to score Anderson for an 11-2 County lead.

Covington County ended the game via 10-run rule when Hawkins doubled home a pair of runs to give them a 13-2 victory.

COVINGTON 4

The Covington County All-Stars were eliminated from the district tournament when they fell to Brewton 6-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Covington County ran into two quick outs to start the first inning, but singles from Fowler and Micah Turner gave them some early life.

Fowler then stole third and later scored on an error to put Covington County up 1-0.

In the top of the second inning, Covington County picked up two quick outs before a single from Williams got things started.

Brewton attempted to pick Williams off at third but that led to an error that allowed Williams to score with ease.

Brewton picked up a pair of singles in the bottom of the second inning that allowed them to cut the Covington County lead down to 2-1.

Covington County extended their lead in the top of the third inning when Hawkins crushed a home run to straight away center to put his team on top 3-1.

Brewton responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game 3-3.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Brewton used a pair of singles and an error to go on top 6-3.

Poindexter led off the top of the fifth inning with a single and then came around to score on an error for the final run of the game.
