Have you been out of school a while and thinking of going to college? If so, there may be some scholarship assistance at LBW Community College for those who qualify and apply by July 1.

“We have a non-traditional scholarship that applies to those who are 21 years of age or older, and/or those students who have been out of high school for one or more years or have passed all sections of the GED,” said Heather Owen, LBWCC director of student recruitment and scholarship chair.

“There is a July 1 deadline to apply for the scholarships for fall 2017 and spring 2018, so if you are interested, don’t delay in getting the application to us.”

The non-traditional scholarships are awarded three times per year, she said.

“We award for the incoming fall semester and following spring semester in an amount that will cover tuition and fees up to $3,000, with half that amount applied each of the two terms,” she said. Further in time, the scholarship will be made available for a spring and summer combination of terms, and then again for a one-semester summer scholarship.

“The minimum grade point average is 2.5 for those currently enrolled or who have attended college in the past,” she said.

“Applications are processed according to the scholarship term. To be considered, it is critical that applicants upload all required documentation, transcripts, and letters of recommendation in the online application.”

As part of the process, applicants must include the estimated family contribution (EFC) obtained from the confirmation page of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), she said.

“The federal form can be found at www.fafsa.gov. Please remember to include LBWCC’s school number of 008988 on that federal application.”
