THEY’RE STILL IN THE HUNT: Andy 10U needs to beat Greenville twice for title

The Andalusia Bulldogs 10U All-Stars have battled their way through the loser’s bracket and are one win away from the district title game in Greenville.

GREENVILLE 10,

ANDALUSIA 7

In the opening game of the tournament, Greenville got three runs late to pick up a 10-7 win over the Bulldogs.

Riley Cravey drew a walk to start the game and moved to second on a single from Collin Wheeler.

The Bulldogs then loaded the bases with a one-out single from Noah Curry.

Neillex Ferrell put the Bulldogs out front when he drove in a pair of runs off an error.

A ground out from Mason Meeks gave Andalusia a 3-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the first inning.

In the bottom of the first inning, Greenville took advantage of two walks and three hits to tie the game 3-3 going into the second inning.

Cade Cassady led off the top of the second inning with a single and then advanced to second on a one-out walk to Keilan Davis.

Mason Sheridan then drew a walk to load up the bases for the Bulldogs.

Cassady and Davis then came around to score on passed balls before a single from Grayson Bush put Andalusia up 6-3.

Greenville rallied in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game 6-6.

Ferrell drew a walk to start the top of the third inning and the came around to score on a sacrifice from Spencer Stroud.

Once again, Greenville responded by tying the game 7-7 heading into the fourth inning.

The game remained 7-7 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Greenville tacked on three runs to help give them a 10-7 victory.

ANDALUSIA 10,

LUVERNE 2

Needing a win to stay alive in the tournament, Andalusia shut down Luverne on Monday night with a 10-2 victory.

Cravey got the game started with a single up the middle of the diamond and then moved to third on single from Curry.

The Bulldogs loaded up the bases with a one-out single from Wheeler.

Ferrell gave the Bulldogs an early lead when he brought Cravey into score on single.

Stroud followed with a scorching triple to left field that put the Bulldogs up 3-0.

Stroud then scored off an error to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.

On the mound, Cassady gave up a leadoff walk and then a hit batter, but settled in and got a strikeout to end the inning without Luverne plating a run.

Andalusia added to their lead in the top of the second inning when Cravey drove in Sheridan with a single to left field.

Wheeler reached second on an error to start the top of the third inning and then scored on a fielder’s choice from Stroud.

Stroud then scored on a passed ball and Cassady scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead.

Cassady continued his strong work on the mound as he breezed through the bottom of the third without giving up a hit.

The Bulldogs went up 10-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Bush drove in Cravey with a single.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Luverne scored a run on a bases loaded walk, but the Bulldog pitchers still didn’t allow Luverne to collect a hit.

Luverne added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Bulldog pitchers once again kept Luverne hitless.

ANDALUSIA 11,

ZION CHAPEL 6

The Bulldogs kept their title hopes alive when they topped Zion Chapel 11-6 in Monday night’s elimination game.

Zion Chapel scratched out a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early lead of the Bulldogs.

Andalusia cut the deficit in half with a run in the top of the fourth inning.

Cravey got things started with a one-out single and moved around to third on pair of wild pitches.

Bush then drove in Cravey with a ground out to short.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Zion Chapel extended their lead with a run-scoring double.

Andalusia answered back five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead.

Wheeler doubled to start the frame and Stroud followed with an RBI single to spark the Bulldogs.

A few batters later, Cassady ripped a double into center that gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead.

Jacob Sellers followed with an RBI single to extend the Bulldog.

Sellers then scored on passed ball to put Andalusia on top 6-3.

The Bulldogs padded their lead in the top of the sixth inning with five more runs.

Curry drove in one run with a single and Stroud drove in two with a double to help give the Bulldogs an 11-4 lead.

Zion Chapel added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the mighty Bulldogs.

With the win, the Bulldogs move into the district title game against Greenville.

That game was supposed to be played Tuesday night, but rain forced the game to be moved to today.

Andalusia must beat Greenville twice to win the title.
