Covington County’s 8U All-Star softball team walked out of Lineville this weekend as 8U Babe Ruth State Champions.

Covington County sent three softball teams to the Babe Ruth State Tournament, with one State Champion and another runner-up.

Covington County picked up the clean sweep of its division with a 13-7 win over Roanoke in the championship game and will now move on to the Babe Ruth Regional Softball Tournament in Houma, La., starting Mon., July 3.

Covington County’s 10U All-Stars also finished runner up to the Roanoke All-Stars, after falling 18-5 and 13-4 in the teams two meetings. The Covington County 10U All-Stars also picked up a win over Lineville 17-15.

Covington County’s All-Stars also finished as runners-up in the 10U division (back row, from left): Jeffery Odom, Will Reed, Nicki Hall, Brian Hall, (middle row) Amaya Williams, Rylee Odom, Mallory Hall, Mary Driggers, Bailey Green, Jaiden Paul, (front row) Brie Hall, Ora Hall, Madelyn Worley, Kylee Brown, Taya Newton and Kalleigh Russell.

Covington County’s 12U All-Star team also took part in the state tournament but it failed to place after losses to Roanoke, Lineville and eventual 12U champions Woodland. The 12U All-Stars did manage, however, a dominating 12-0 win over Ashland in the tournament.

The 8U All-Stars will be leaving Mon., July 3, to begin the 8U Babe Ruth Softball Southwest Regional Tournament in Houma. The winner of that tournament will move on to the Babe Ruth World Series.
