Just two years ago, the Heliport Café at South Alabama Regional Airport wasn’t really breaking even.
Last summer, airport officials took steps to make it profitable.
Twice in 2016 – in July and September – the airport increased the meal prices for civilians.
The café is open to military and civilian customers.
Executive Director Jed Blackwell said that on Thursday and Friday you can find people lined up to eat at the Heliport Café.
Blackwell said there are plans to open a room where the refuelers currently sit for the military and get a Wright Manufacturing building for the staff.
“We can open it up for our military and possibly expand the heliport in the future,” Blackwell said.
