Tickets went on sale Monday for the annual Meredith’s Miracles Fish Fry.

Emily Yehling, director of the organization, said the event is slated for Aug. 11, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Southside Baptist Church.

The event is expected to draw some 500 people.

The menu is fried catfish, cheese grits, French fries, coleslaw, hushpuppies, cake and drink.

Dine-in or carry out is available. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children under 12.

Changes are coming to this year’s event, Yehling said.

“We are doing some different things this year,” she said. “First, we are going to have an art contest. Children can use an 8.5×11 sheet of paper and use any media they like – watercolor, crayons, markers – their choice. We just ask that their artwork is something about Meredith’s Miracles.”

Yehling said the entries are due the first day of school.

“We will have the entries on the wall and when people come into the fish fry, they will be able to vote for the art they like the best,” she said.

There will be three categories: Kindergarten and first grade; second and third grade; and fourth and fifth grade.

“The winner will receive a $25 VISA gift card, their photo in the newspaper and I will frame it and hang it at the Meredith’s Miracles office until our next fish fry,” she said.

The second newly added feature for the fish fry is rock painting.

“With the Andalusia Rocks going on, we will have solid colored painted rocks on the tables and children can decorate them,” she said. “Meredith’s Miracles is about spreading hope and joy, so we want them to do that.”

Yehling said there will still be the traditional bake sale, and she needs volunteers to help make baked goods.

Purchase tickets or turn in art entries at Meredith’s Miracles Thrift Shop or at Harold’s.
