Accident leads to charge for public intoxication

A man who was struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Andalusia was charged with public intoxication and parole violation.

A spokesman for the Andalusia Police Department said officers responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident on Coleman Avenue at about 9 p.m. Sat., July 8.

The pedestrian, identified as Norman Daniels, 55, of Andalusia, was not injured. Responding officers indicated that Mr. Daniels was extremely intoxicated and had fallen down in the road when he was struck by a vehicle that was turning around.

Daniels was arrested for public intoxication and was also wanted by the Alabama Dept. of Corrections for parole violation. He was taken by EMS to Andalusia Hospital as a precaution before being taken to the Covington County jail, where he was held on a $4,300 bond.
