AMVETS seeking more ways to serve vets

To the editor:

AMVETS Post 23 in Opp has been in existence for four years now. In an effort to bring the Post’s activities in helping veterans and their families to the next level, three members of the Post and the newly formed service foundation will travel to Norfolk, Va., to attend the national convention. This convention encompasses several states’ posts which have been operating for several years. Their years of experience and wealth of knowledge will be of great benefit to the operation of Post 23 and the other Alabama veterans posts.

Also, Amvets Post 23 has been sponsoring a Veterans Readjustment Meeting with Comfort Care out of Andalusia on Thursday mornings.

With the minimal participation at these meetings, due to timing, work schedules, child sitting, etc., it has been decided to change the meeting time to evenings from 6 until 7. On the first Thursday of each month. These meetings will still be held at the Post at 203 MLK Drive. Watch the calendar of events in The Star-news for reminders.

WE, the Post members and the medical social worker, Sonja Grimes hope this change in meeting time will make it more convenient for our veterans needing help, advice, or just a sympathetic ear.

Wish us well in our continuing endeavors to help our vets, their families, and the community.
