Polly Wilder Waits

Mrs. Polly Wilder Waits, 92, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., July 16, 2017, at Andalusia Manor.

Mrs. Waits was born in Andalusia on July 9, 1925, the daughter of Col. Guy B. and Mary C. Ray Wilder. A graduate of Andalusia High School, she later attended Judson College in Marion, Ala. She was a lifelong faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Andalusia.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wed., July 19, at Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Montgomery officiating. The interment service will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Foreman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her husband, Sidney Waits of Andalusia; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Evelyn Waits and Mac Smith of Birmingham; one son and daughter-in-law, George and Jean Waits of Titus, Ala.; her grandchildren, Bentley Smith (Brad) Sloan, Maclin F. (Ashley) Smith, IV, Yeates Smith, Dr. George S. (Charlotte) Waits, IV, Capt. Luke (Danae) Waits, Libby Waits, Marianna (Daniel) Friday, Abigail (Andrew) Singer, Sterling Waits, and Shepherd Waits; four great-grandchildren, Cobb Sloan, Miller Sloan, Dorothy Waits, and Annie Smith; her sister, Evelyn Wilder Anderson of Destin, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Becky Merrill Wilder of Decatur, Ala..

Mrs. Waits is preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Guy B. Wilder, Jr.; and brother-in-law, John W. Anderson, Sr.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.

Robert (Bobby)

Lester Barton

On June 26, 2017, Bobby Barton passed away at the age of 68. He grew up and graduated high school in Andalusia. Bobby was an accomplished artist, photographer, and musician. He worked in the restaurant business in the Fort Walton Beach area for many years. He retired from the Northwest Florida Ballet Academia in Fort Walton Beach. He leaves behind many friends in the artist community.

He is survived by his aunt, Wilma Jean Barton of Florala; cousins, Allen Barton (Debra) and family of Holt, Fla., and David Neese, (Val) and family of Dadeville, Ala.; step-brother, Robert Taylor of Fairhope; and step-sister, Debby Ledlow Ray of Luverne.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Radney L. Barton and Mildred Barton Taylor; his grandparents, Oliver and Mamie Ann Barton; and family members Vernon Barton, Sybil Barton, Margaret Barton Neese, Buck Neese and Don Neese.

The family would like to express appreciation to Bobby’s special friends Sherry Allen, Todd Allen, Al Keenan and Bill Garrett for their aid and friendship to Bobby during his illness and throughout the years.

There will be a graveside service for Bobby on Fri., July 21, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Judson Cemetery in the Stanley Community, Highway 55. Sister Maxie Reed

Sister Maxie Reed was born June 27, 1936, in Kinston, Ala., to the late Oscar Lane and Nonie Lane. She departed her life on June 28, 2017, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

Maxine joined the Nazareth Baptist Church at an early age. She went to a public school, where she graduated and continued to work at being a wonderful housekeeper, mother and a dedicated grandmother. She enjoyed laughing and being an inspiration to others.

Sister Maxie is preceded in death by her parents, sisters and brothers.

She leaves to cherish her undying love forever a son, Artis Reed, Opp; sister, Selma Lane, Gary, Ind.; a brother, Azotus Lane, DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; her devoted friend Jernice Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held July 8, 2017, at Nazareth Baptist Church in Opp with pastor Terry Hill officiating. Internment was in the Lane Cemetery, Kinston. Arrangements were by Christian Memorial Funeral Home of Evergreen.

 

Karry Frank Mackey

Mr. Karry Frank Mackey, 68, of Andalusia, passed away Mon., July 17, 2017, at his sister’s residence.

A private memorial service will be held later.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacy Mackey; and son, Karry F. “Scooter” Mackey, II both of Wayne, Mich.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a step-grandson, Jonathan McKenzie of Sanford; one sister, Sylvia Mackey (Perry Lewis) of Heath; and a brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Marlene Mackey of Maumee, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen Franklin Mackey and Joann Brock Mackey; and a brother, John William Mackey.

Martinez

Melissa Lee Martinez, 32, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., July 16, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She is survived by four daughters, Madison Thompson, Alyssa Lee, Emma G. Edgar, Natalie Edgar; a son, Rollin Edgar, all of Andalusia; her mother, Tyna Barth; maternal grandfather, Buddy Jay; a brother, Michael Tyson Lee, all of Andalusia; one sister, Keri Lee of Arizona; three aunts, Brenda Hudson of Enterprise, Linda Lee of Florida, Sue Lee of Enterprise; and uncle Randall Jay of Andalusia.
