Opp’s Hightower plays in North-South All-Star softball game

There were some talented athletes on display at the 2017 AHSAA North-South All-Star softball games at Lagoon Park in Montgomery on Tuesday night.

 

NORTH 12, SOUTH 6

In the opening game, the North All-Stars used a big third inning to knock off the South All-Stars 12-6.

The South All-Stars took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The North All-Stars responded with one run in the top of the second inning and then tacked on eight runs in the top of the third inning to take a 9-4 lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, the North All-Stars added three more runs.

Victoria Ortiz led the way for the South All-Stars going 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Opp’s Ariyon Hightower finished the game 1-for-2. Hightower beat out an infield single for her hit.

 

SOUTH 11, NORTH 1

 

The South All-Stars got a one-out double from Amberly Montgomery to start the top of the first inning and then she came around to score on single from Ortiz.

In the top of the second inning, the South All-Stars went to work with a double from Courtney Ellzey.

Ellzey moved to second on single from Brantley’s Leanna Johnson.

The South then went up 2-0 when Brett Parker scored Ellzey with a single.

Kennedy Cronan then ripped a two-out double into the outfield to put the South up 4-0.

A single from Hope Mynard then gave the South a 5-0 lead.

The South continued to swing big bats in the second game as double in the top of the third inning brought in a pair of runs to put the South All-Stars up 7-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, the North All-Stars plated a run, but still trailed 7-1.

The game remained 7-1 in the South’s favor heading into the fifth inning, and they pulled out an 11-1 win.
