Mothers of small children do not have much free time, but the First Baptist Church of Andalusia has a solution.
Mother’s Day Out is a program offered by the church in which mothers can drop off their young children beginning Aug. 15, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8 a.m. until noon.
This is for babies who are crawling through Pre-K.
Coordinator Beverly Farrington said the program averages about 30 children in the program.
She said the program has evolved into more of a preschool setting.
“It’s for mother’s to be able to shop, get some housework done and just do whatever they need to,” she said. “It’s also for the children to learn social skills, and we also teach them things like in school. We teach them their ABCs and numbers. We’re preparing them for kindergarten.”
She said they incorporate learning that is age-appropriate.
“The two year old and 3-4 year old classes are taught age appropriate material, preparing the 4s for kindergarten,” she said.
Children also learn biblical principles.
“We try to teach them biblical principles and how the Lord teaches us how to act and treat others,” she said. “We’re learning Bible verses and doing a little Bible story at least one day a week for the children. We are also singing Christian songs that go a long with the units.”
Registration and open house is set for Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The monthly fee is $50 for one day a week and $100 for two days a week.
There is a supply fee due in August and January.
Application forms may be picked up at the FBC office.
