Sales tax holiday continues

The back-to-school tax-free holiday continues today and through the weekend.

On Friday, traffic at local retailers was up and down throughout the day.

During the sales tax holiday, patrons are exempt from paying sales taxes on school supplies that are less than $50; computer and tablets that are less than $750; books that are less than $30; and clothing that is less than $100 per article.

Diapers are also included in the tax exemption.

Locally, the cities of Andalusia, Opp, Florala, Red Level and Covington County are participating in the tax-free weekend.

This is the first time the state has moved the holiday up to July instead of the usual first weekend in August.

The sales tax holiday ends tomorrow at midnight.
