There was a nice crowd on hand Saturday at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds for the Covington County 8U softball All-Stars’ Summerfest fundraiser.

The event helped the girls raise money for the trip to the 2017 Babe Ruth World Series in Jensen Beach, Fla., on July 28.

There was face painting, games, a dunking booth, a silent auction, refreshments and then capped off with a home run derby.

The home run derby was split into two age groups with a winner coming out of each group.

In the high school division, Clay Ashberry defeated Bryant Harper.

In the adult division, Jeremy Melvin finished as the overall winner.

The Covington County 8U All-Stars will begin World Series action on Friday.

The girls will represent Covington County, the state of Alabama and the Southwest Region in the upcoming World Series.

The tournament begins Friday, but the County opponent is unknown at this time.

For those that can’t make the trip, the games will be live streamed on the Babe Ruth website. Live updates and brackets can be found on the Tourney Machine application.
